Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, accusing her of attempting to block Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials from investigating a Rs 3,000 crore coal scam.
In a press conference, Prasad, a former union law minister, referred to India's solicitor general's submission to the Supreme Court concerning the ED's probe into the possible involvement of consultancy firm I-PAC in the scam. The alleged obstruction by the West Bengal government during ED raids at the I-PAC office in Kolkata has intensified tensions.
Prasad condemned Banerjee's actions, citing her interference during the ED's operations. He criticized the West Bengal police's compliance with Banerjee's directives over legal duties and questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's silence on the matter, despite his vocal advocacy for constitutional justice. Prasad also noted BJP's recent electoral successes, expressing confidence ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections.
