The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a decisive victory in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, capturing power for the fourth time consecutively. With the counting of votes in progress, the party announced victories in 97 out of 151 seats and leads in 10 additional seats.
Leaders such as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and state minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule have bolstered the party's standing in a city that has been BJP's stronghold since 2007. The BJP, contesting 143 seats, leveraged its organizational strengths and the absence of significant opposition from Congress.
Journalist Vivek Deshpande noted the absence of anti-incumbency sentiment, attributing the party's influence to the leaders' regular presence and continued development projects despite the absence of elected representatives for three years. The BJP's strategic candidate selection and campaign outreach were instrumental in maintaining voter confidence.
