President Donald Trump has proposed the possibility of imposing tariffs on nations that fail to support the United States' ambition to gain control over Greenland, justifying the need as a matter of national security. Although Trump revealed this on Friday, he didn't specify how these tariffs would be implemented.
For several months, Trump has been persistent in his claim that Greenland, an autonomous territory under Denmark's sovereignty, should be under American control. However, Friday marked the first occasion where he mentioned tariffs as a potential tool to influence this geopolitical aim.
This declaration has met with opposition from European leaders and Denmark, who have collectively stated that the United States does not have the right to control such a vast and strategically located region.
