The BJP launched an attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, labeling him a hypocrite concerning his stance on proportional representation for Dalits and other communities. This criticism was sparked by a video of Charanjit Singh Channi, a Congress MP and former Punjab Chief Minister, calling for increased Dalit representation, thereby highlighting the disparity between Gandhi's promises and practices.

"I think Charanjit Singh Channi has exposed the gap between Rahul Gandhi's principles and words," BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said during a press conference. He accused Gandhi of lacking the ability to enact social justice within his party, unlike true 'jannayaks' like former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.

Poonawalla further stated that Gandhi's rhetoric about proportional representation for various castes was not reflected in the party's internal dynamics, especially in Punjab, where there's significant SC population. The spokesperson also highlighted ongoing internal conflicts within the Congress, suggesting a deep divide leading to its fragmentation under Gandhi's leadership.
