Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticized the BJP-led central government on Thursday, accusing it of using women's issues as mere political slogans. He emphasized the need for reservations for OBC and Muslim women under the proposed women's quota law.
During a debate in the Lok Sabha about bills amending the Women's Reservation Act, Yadav pointed out that BJP, despite governing in 21 states and Union territories, manages to have only one woman in a significant leadership position. He accused the ruling party of delaying the population and caste census for political benefits through early delimitation.
Yadav demanded the government complete the Census before proceeding with the delimitation exercise, labeling the BJP's efforts as a conspiracy disguised as women's empowerment. He reiterated the need for true gender and social justice, warning that women have been struggling with inflation and scarce resources like LPG cylinders.
