Russia launched a massive assault on Ukraine, targeting civilian areas with hundreds of drones and missiles. The attack, which lasted for hours, killed at least 16 people and injured more than 100, as residents took shelter in fear. This attack marks the largest aerial barrage in nearly two weeks.
In retaliation for Ukrainian strikes inside Russia, Moscow claimed its offensive targeted facilities associated with the Ukrainian armed forces. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, after recent trips to Germany, Norway, and Italy, is urging allies to enhance Ukraine's air defense systems to counter these escalating threats.
Amidst a plea for international assistance, Ukraine's air force successfully shot down a majority of incoming targets. Nonetheless, extensive damage has occurred in major cities, highlighting the urgent need for more sophisticated defense systems and the disbursement of a promised EU loan of 90 billion euros, currently blocked by Hungary.
