Srijana Chettri Clinches Victory in Gangtok Municipal Election

BJP candidate Srijana Chettri won the Diesel Power House ward of Gangtok Municipal Corporation by defeating Bindhya Cintury by 585 votes. Polling took place Friday with only two candidates contesting. The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha secured the majority in other wards, and the swearing-in is set for May 2.

BJP's Srijana Chettri secured her place as the elected representative from the Diesel Power House (DPH) ward in the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, as declared by the State Election Commission on Saturday.

Chettri triumphed over her competitor, Bindhya Cintury, by a margin of 585 votes. She garnered 899 votes, compared to Cintury's 384 votes. The election for the DPH seat was held on Friday, featuring only these two candidates.

Elsewhere in the corporation's 20 wards, the ruling party Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) claimed victory in 18 seats, with two going to BJP without contest due to an opposition boycott. The swearing-in ceremony for winners from the Gangtok Municipal Corporation and Singtam Nagar Panchayat is scheduled for May 2, according to District Collection-Municipal Returning Officer Tushar Nikhare.
