BSP chief Mayawati has expressed her approval of the special Uttar Pradesh Assembly session dedicated to discussing women's legislative reservation. However, she conveyed her concern over the enduring delay in its implementation, labeling the ongoing struggle for women's representation as 'sad and unfortunate' in Indian politics.

Mayawati highlighted the initiative's failure to secure the proposed 33 percent reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies despite relentless efforts, asserting that it is a distressing chapter deserving immediate attention. She reiterated her party's supportive stance on the special session convened by the state government.

The debate on the reservation law has seen finger-pointing between the BJP and the opposition, each blaming the other for legislative setbacks. The Constitutional Amendment Bill aimed at instituting 33 percent reservation for women and increasing Lok Sabha seats failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in April. Thus, the women's reservation law remains stalled, awaiting resolution in future parliamentary sessions.
