Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing critique against opposition parties on Thursday, accusing them of exploiting religious reservations to impede women's rights. He described such actions as an act of treason during his address at a special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly devoted to the Women's Reservation Bill.
Adityanath emphasized the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) unwavering support for the reservation of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), while firmly opposing religious-based reservations. He reflected on the 1947 partition, underscoring that such divisions must never recur in India.
Further criticizing the opposition's approach to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Amendment Bill, Adityanath claimed their true intent of maintaining religious reservations at the cost of women's rights had been revealed. The session concluded with the Uttar Pradesh Assembly passing a censure motion against the opposition for their stance on the bill.
