Amid shifting global geopolitics, India and the Netherlands have upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership, signing 17 agreements to enhance cooperation in defense, critical minerals, and other key sectors. The announcement followed talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

The leaders expressed deep concern over disruptions to global energy supplies and the tense situation in West Asia. They emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and the global flow of commerce, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, where conflict has impacted shipping since early this year.

The partnership also seeks to bolster cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, and defense. With the signing of a migration and mobility agreement, movement of professionals for work and education prospects is expected to increase. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to peace, sustainable growth, and counterterrorism efforts.
