Vote Counting Begins for Punjab's Municipal Elections

Vote counting for Punjab's civic elections started this morning with strict security. Held on May 26, the elections encompassed various municipal bodies, witnessing a 63.94% voter turnout. These elections are vital for parties like AAP, BJP, Congress, and SAD. The process faces scrutiny from opposition accusing AAP of machinery misuse.

The counting of votes for Punjab's municipal elections commenced at 8 am today under rigorous security measures, according to officials.

Elections occurred on May 26 across 102 municipal bodies, including eight municipal corporations and multiple municipal councils, with a 63.94% voter turnout. These elections are critical for major parties such as AAP, BJP, Congress, and SAD as they anticipate next year's Assembly elections. More than 7,500 candidates are contesting these vital local body elections.

Each counting center is monitored by two micro observers, who report to a general observer. Access to counting halls is limited to authorized personnel.

The opposition has accused the AAP of misusing official resources during the elections, portraying the polls as a crucial test for the ruling party in securing its governance in Punjab.
