In a significant legal development, Congress leader and former MLA Alka Lamba announced her intention to challenge a court conviction connected to a protest against the Women's Reservation Bill at Jantar Mantar in July 2024.
Speaking to reporters amid her release on probation by the Rouse Avenue Court, Lamba expressed her acceptance of the court’s judgment while voicing her commitment to challenging the conviction. She emphasized her clean political record spanning 30 years, highlighting her adherence to the Constitution.
No fines or imprisonment were imposed; instead, Lamba was granted probation for a year with a Rs 1 lakh bond. Her legal counsel, Aarfa Khanam, noted the absence of a punishment yet acknowledged the conviction, promising an appeal in the session court.
