In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made significant gains in the Panchayati Raj elections in Himachal Pradesh, sending a powerful signal to the incumbent Congress government. Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, emphasized the importance of this victory, spotlighting the win of BJP-backed candidate Khush Vikram Sen from the Chamyana ward.
Addressing party workers and media in Shimla, Thakur extended gratitude to voters and the party's hardworking representatives. He underscored the significance of BJP's triumph in erstwhile weak regions. The former CM viewed this electoral success as a condemnation of Congress's governance, vowing that the people would oust Congress in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Thakur accused the ruling Congress of attempting to manipulate the electoral mandate, mentioning threats made against elected representatives and the undue scrutiny of land records. He criticized delays in electing urban body officials, suggesting poor governance. Thakur also expressed support for development projects and criticized intra-party Congress conflicts.
