Russia launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, prompting air strike alerts across most of Ukraine's territory, following a previous major attack on a 1,000-year-old monastery.

​Russia ‌attacked the Ukrainian ​capital of Kyiv with ‌missiles, Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the capital's military administration, ‌said in a ‌Telegram post early on Thursday.

Explosions were heard in Kyiv, ⁠a ​Reuters ⁠witness said, and most of Ukraine's ⁠territory issued air strike ​alerts. On Monday, a 1,000-year-old monastery ⁠that symbolises Ukraine's spiritual and ⁠cultural ​heritage was badly damaged in a major ⁠attack by Russia that ⁠killed ⁠10 people nationwide.
