South Korea's military has launched a loudspeaker broadcast campaign directed at North Korea overnight in response to Pyongyang's balloon campaign, which involved sending trash in balloons to the South.
Since May, North Korea has been sending thousands of balloons with bags of trash that have caused property damage in South Korean civilian neighborhoods. In retaliation, South Korea resumed loudspeaker broadcasts, blaring propaganda, world news, and K-pop music.
North Korea has reacted angrily towards these broadcasts and the balloon campaign. Although stopped under a 2018 peace agreement, both sides have nullified the pact, escalating tensions.
