All tourist vehicles entering Sikkim are now required to carry large garbage bags, as per a new official order.
This initiative, introduced by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, aims to foster community participation in achieving environmental sustainability.
Tour operators, travel agencies, and vehicle drivers must inform travelers about the proper use of garbage bags for waste disposal. Random vehicle checks will ensure compliance, with penalties for violations.
Ongoing awareness campaigns aim to educate tourists about cleanliness, waste management, and the importance of environmental sustainability. Sikkim, India's least populated state, hosts over 20 lakh visitors annually, drawn by its scenic Himalayan destinations.
