Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad has called on the civil aviation ministry to classify the region impacted by the Mumbai airport runway funnel zone as 'infrastructure affected.'
In a letter to civil aviation minister K R Naidu, Gaikwad stated that redevelopment of over 6000 buildings within the zone remains stagnant because of height restrictions imposed by the ministry. The funnel zone encompasses areas aligned with runways and specific flight paths for landing and taking off.
'This situation has severely compromised multiple redevelopment projects, putting six to eight lakh residents of Vile Parle, Santacruz, Kurla, and Ghatkopar (West) in a difficult position. Stalled development projects are causing financial distress to residents,' Gaikwad said.
