A BJP MLA in Goa is pushing back against a proposal to designate 63 state villages as eco-sensitive areas, arguing such a move would displace residents and cause significant hardship. Deviya Rane, representing the Poriem assembly constituency, voiced her concerns during the state legislative assembly session.

Rane questioned the government's plan and asked if they intend to move these residents to cities, emphasizing the unique struggles village residents face compared to city dwellers. She referenced a July 31, 2024, notification that included these 63 villages, up from the 55 in the previous draft, and called for their removal from the list.

Rane also pointed out the significant local opposition, mentioning that 10,000 signatures were sent to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest. She stressed the importance of considering the livelihoods affected, especially in areas like Bhuipal, which houses industries crucial to local employment.
