The Karnataka government has taken a significant step by designating the Greater Hesaraghatta Grassland as a Conservation Reserve. Spanning 5,678 acres and 32 guntas in Yelahanka taluk, this move underscores a commitment to intertwine economic progress with ecological preservation.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh applauded the decision, highlighting the state's track record in attracting new investments while implementing income and food security measures. This initiative, he asserts, is critical for groundwater recharge, biodiversity conservation, and as a natural carbon sink beneficial for combating urban climate change.
This conservation effort, which does not infringe on existing land rights, promises to protect wildlife habitats, support migratory birds, and serve as a sustainable water source for Bengaluru. Ramesh calls it a model approach, demonstrating the possible synergy between growth, development, and sustainability.
