Incessant rainfall across Uttar Pradesh has escalated to unprecedented flooding in 13 districts, officials reported Monday. Key rivers, including Ganga, Yamuna, and Betwa, have risen above danger levels at numerous junctures.
Particularly hit are districts like Varanasi and Prayagraj where Ganga and Yamuna surged, disrupting daily life and ritual practices. Reports from the relief commissioner's office indicated schools are closed, and emergency relief camps are operational for displaced citizens.
With religious sites submerged, authorities moved traditional activities to makeshift locations, and halted riverboat traffic as a safety measure. Disaster response units are actively rescuing and relocating stranded residents, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
