In a severe weather-triggered move, educational institutions across Jammu are closed, according to a directive issued on Sunday by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. This action comes in response to deadly cloudbursts that have claimed 68 lives and injured 122 individuals in the Kishtwar and Kathua districts over recent days.
The closure, set for Monday, August 18, aims to safeguard students and staff amidst predicted heavy rainfall and possible flooding. The Meteorological Department has issued a high-alert advisory for ten districts, warning residents of cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods possibility.
Tragedy struck on August 14, when a cloudburst-triggered flash flood hit Chisoti village in Kishtwar, leading to 61 deaths and over 116 injuries, with dozens still missing. Subsequent incidents in Kathua on August 17 resulted in further casualties, painting a grim picture for the region.
