The newly launched Ramanujan Junior Researchers programme, backed by India's Department for Science and Technology, offers a promising avenue for India's brightest young mathematicians and physicists. These scholars will engage in collaborative research at the esteemed London Institute for Mathematical Sciences (LIMS), enhancing cross-cultural scientific exchange.
The initiative, named after mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, celebrates his historic collaboration with British mathematician G H Hardy. Dr. Thomas Fink, Director of LIMS, expressed that the programme would act as a talent exchange bridge between India and the UK, echoing the fruitful partnership of the past.
Instigated by Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami, and supported by Professor Krishnaswamy Vijayraghavan, the programme includes multiple phases. Initially, Indian PhD students from JNCASR will attend lectures and conduct research at LIMS. Phase two will introduce fellowships open to recent PhD graduates across India, aiming to foster scientific dialogue and discovery.
