In a major move towards modernization, Delhi's Public Works Department (PWD) is gearing up to launch a comprehensive tender this month, aimed at replacing all existing 92,163 streetlights with smart LED alternatives across the city.
The revamped streetlights will feature an automatic on-off system and real-time online monitoring, ensuring enhanced illumination and significant cost savings. Spearheaded by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the initiative is predicted to save approximately Rs 31.53 crore annually in electricity and maintenance costs.
In a meeting led by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, directives were issued to finalize the project by October, emphasizing accountability and efficiency. An 'EMI model' for payments will be adopted and all smart lights will be connected to a mobile application for real-time monitoring.
