The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has flagged serious concerns over the environmental compliance of industries across India, highlighting significant lapses.
In a recent report, the CPCB listed 4,493 Grossly Polluting Industries (GPIs), of which 3,633 remain operational. Shockingly, only 3,031 adhere to environmental norms, with 572 facing show-cause notices. Notably, 29 units received closure directives.
Furthermore, the CPCB identified 296 polluted river stretches. Despite these findings, the Jal Jeevan Mission boasts success in expanding clean tap water access to rural areas, now reaching 81% of homes. However, a lacking scientific study on health hazards from contaminated water was noted.
