Tries from wingers Jacopo Trulla and Monty Ioane, along with a penalty and conversion by flyhalf Paolo Garbisi, secured a solid 15-0 lead at halftime.

Tonga's loose forward Viliami Taulani scored early in the second half, but Italy's captain Michele Lamaro and scrumhalf Alessandro Garbisi responded with two more tries, ensuring no repeat of past upsets. A late penalty try awarded to Italy after Tonga collapsed four scrums under their posts added a final polish to the scoreline.

With the victory, the Azzuri depart for the final leg of their tour in Japan, invigorated and confident.
