India Aims to Extend Dominance in Women's Asia Cup as Preparation for T20 World Cup
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur views the Women's Asia Cup as crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament, starting Friday, sees India, historically dominant in the event, facing Pakistan in their opener. With a stellar record, India's focus is on consistent performance and dominating cricket.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur emphasized on Thursday the importance of the Women's Asia Cup as a pivotal preparation platform for the T20 World Cup. The continental tournament, being held in the T20 format, kicks off on Friday with India taking on rivals Pakistan. The World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh later this year.
Since its inception in 2004, India has consistently emerged victorious, claiming the trophy in all seven editions. 'This tournament is significant because we respect it equally and aim to improve on both Asian and global levels,' said Harmanpreet at the captains' press conference.
With 17 wins in 20 matches, India remains a formidable force in the Women's Asia Cup T20. The Harmanpreet-led side, which beat Bangladesh in the 2022 final, views each game as vital preparation for the world stage, including their opener against a historically challenging Pakistan squad.
