Controversy Erupts Over Spanish Players' Chants
The Gibraltar Football Association filed a complaint to UEFA after Spanish players chanted 'Gibraltar is Spanish' during their Euro victory celebrations. Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory, found the chants deeply offensive. The incident has sparked anger and calls for UEFA to address the behavior.
The Gibraltar Football Association has lodged a formal complaint with UEFA following chants by Spanish players claiming 'Gibraltar is Spanish' during their European Championship celebrations. The provocative statements were made by senior players, including Alvaro Morata and Rodri, during Spain's victory parade in Madrid.
Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory, has expressed deep offense at the chants. The Gibraltar FA highlighted that Gibraltarians have consistently exercised their democratic right to remain a British territory. Morata's attempt to remind Rodri of his affiliation with an English club was met with dismissal, further aggravating the situation.
The Gibraltar FA condemned the conduct as unlawful and a breach of UEFA's disciplinary regulations. They emphasized that such remarks undermine Gibraltar's status as an independent national member association. Both UEFA and the Spanish Football Federation have been contacted for comments.
