Carlo Tizzano Set for Debut Against South Africa in Rugby Championship
Carlo Tizzano will debut at openside flanker for Australia against South Africa in the Rugby Championship. Injuries to key players opened the door for the 24-year-old, who joins Harry Wilson and Rob Valetini in the back row. Coach Joe Schmidt named Allan Alaalatoa as captain for the match in Brisbane.
Carlo Tizzano is set for his test debut against world champions South Africa in Brisbane this Saturday, taking the position of openside flanker for Australia's Rugby Championship opener. The 24-year-old's opportunity comes due to injuries to Fraser McReight and Liam Wright, aligning him with Harry Wilson and Rob Valetini in the back row at Lang Park.
Uncapped ACT Brumbies loose forward Luke Reimer is prepared to make his debut from the bench, while prop Allan Alaalatoa continues his captaincy for the second consecutive test. Coach Joe Schmidt reintroduced Noah Lolesio and Jake Gordon to the lineup as flyhalf and scrumhalf, following their rest during the win against Georgia in the final July test. Despite adding overseas-based winger Marika Koroibete to the squad, he was not selected for the team.
Additionally, Fiji-born player Filipo Daugunu maintains his position as left wing after his performances against Wales in July. Prop Taniela Tupou will not play due to a family bereavement, with Zane Nonggorr stepping in as replacement tighthead. Flyhalf Tom Lynagh and scrumhalf Tate McDermott from the Queensland Reds were named on the bench. "There's a mix of continuity and freshness in the squad, and the players have shown good enthusiasm during the week, but we understand the challenge ahead," Schmidt stated.
