India secured their second consecutive Olympic bronze, the first in 52 years, with a 2-1 victory over Spain in the third-place playoff. This comeback came within 48 hours of a 3-2 semifinal defeat against world champions Germany, shattering a 44-year-old gold medal jinx.
Leading up to the final, the team overcame numerous challenges, including a crucial match against Britain with only 10 men. Despite missing key defender Amit Rohidas, the Indians fought hard in the shoot-out, with goalkeeper PR Sreejesh playing a pivotal role.
