UEFA Announces Major Funding Boost for Non-Competitive Soccer Clubs
UEFA will increase funding for soccer clubs not participating in men's continental competitions during the 2024-27 cycle. This will raise the allocation from 4% to 7% of expected revenue, equating to €308 million. Top five federations have a capped allocation, while the remaining funds will boost 50 other associations.
In a landmark decision, European soccer's governing body UEFA announced a substantial increase in funding for clubs not participating in men's continental competitions. The new allocation, set for the 2024-27 cycle, will rise from 4% to 7% of the projected €4.4 billion revenue.
This translates to €308 million, an almost 80% increase from the previous cycle. Notably, allocations to the top five federations—England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France—will be capped at €10 million each. The remaining 50 associations will see their funds swell from €135 million to €258 million.
The European Clubs Associations (ECA) hailed the decision, applauding the equitable distribution system designed to enhance competitive balance within domestic leagues. Additionally, a new women's football strategy for 2024-30 has been approved, with details forthcoming.
