Mercury13, a multi-club ownership group, has acquired a majority stake in Bristol City Women, strengthening their European presence after previously investing in Italy's Como Women. Announced on Thursday, this transaction signifies a strategic partnership aligned with Mercury13's vision for the growth of women's football.
Stephen Lansdown, the longstanding owner of Bristol City, cedes stewardship of the women's side but maintains a minority ownership. Lansdown, a Bristol native, has significantly contributed to the club, including a redevelopment of Ashton Gate Stadium. He expressed pride in fostering the club's development.
Mercury13, led by sports entrepreneur Victoire Cogevina Reynal, is positioned to push Bristol City for promotion back to the Women's Super League. The group emphasizes the club's rich history and infrastructure and plans a $100 million investment in women's soccer clubs across Europe and Latin America.
