The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it intends to step back from involvement in sports-related matters, particularly cricket. The decision underscores the perception that cricket has transformed into a business rather than remaining a purely sporting activity.
This sentiment was conveyed by a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta during a hearing of a petition challenging a ruling by the Madhya Pradesh High Court concerning a cricket association in the Jabalpur division.
The bench, expressing a reluctance to entertain the plea, noted the rising stakes in commercial sports. Following the court's indication, the petitioner's counsel agreed to withdraw the plea.
