Goa has been selected as the venue for the prestigious 2025 FIDE World Cup Chess Championship, scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 27. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the launch of the event's logo and anthem on Tuesday in the presence of prominent state and chess federation officials.
The global chess tournament promises intense competition, with top contenders like Gukesh D, Arjun Erigaisi, and Praggnanandhaa R among others. The championship winner will earn a place in the 2026 Candidates Tournament. Notably, 12-year-old Argentinian prodigy Faustino Oro is set to participate, making history as the youngest competitor.
With participants from 82 countries, the championship is expected to elevate Goa's status on a global platform while promoting tourism and nurturing local chess talent. This marks the tournament's return to India after 23 years, making it a moment of pride for Goa and the nation.
