Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Davis Cup Finals With Injury
World number one tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna due to a swollen hamstring. His absence is a significant blow to the event. The Spaniard had been looking forward to competing for Spain in the tournament.
World number one, Carlos Alcaraz, has announced his withdrawal from the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna due to a swollen hamstring. The decision follows an aggravation of the injury during the ATP Finals, where Alcaraz was defeated by Jannik Sinner in the title match.
This latest development delivers a major setback to the International Tennis Federation, the organizers of the Davis Cup. Alcaraz expressed his deep disappointment, stating on Instagram, 'Playing for Spain is the greatest thing there is, and I was really looking forward to helping us fight for the Davis Cup.'
Italy's Jannik Sinner, currently ranked number two, had also withdrawn from the tournament, along with Lorenzo Musetti, who cited physical and family concerns. As the competition progresses, Italy faces Austria on Wednesday and Spain is set to battle the Czech Republic on Thursday in the quarter-finals, with the finals scheduled for Sunday.
