The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has announced that the men's World Cup downhill race cancelled in Beaver Creek will now take place in Val Gardena, Italy, on December 18. Insufficient snow and forecasts of heavy snowfall have plagued organizers at the Colorado resort.
On Thursday, the downhill race was won by Swiss contender Marco Odermatt after being moved up by 24 hours. The second race, however, will not occur as initially planned. These logistical challenges have prompted the rescheduling.
Despite cancellations, a super-G race remains slated for later on Friday, with a giant slalom set to unfold on Sunday, according to the latest updates from the events' organizers.
