Mircea Lucescu: A National Coaching Legacy Ends

Mircea Lucescu has resigned from his role as head coach of Romania's national football team, as confirmed by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) on Thursday. This decision follows a 1-0 loss to Turkey in the World Cup qualifying playoff semi-final on March 26.

The 80-year-old was hospitalized last week after falling ill during a pre-training session meeting, preventing him from participating in a subsequent friendly match in Slovakia on Tuesday. Lucescu's departure marks the end of his second tenure as Romania's coach. His first term in the early 1980s saw him lead the team to the 1984 European Championship, Romania's debut in the tournament.

The FRF announced that Lucescu is expected to take up a new position within the organization soon. The search is underway for his replacement to guide the team through the next qualifying cycle.
