The Global Pravasi Kabaddi League (GPKL), backed by the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), has formally initiated the Expression of Interest process for franchise ownership as investors show interest across varied segments. With limited slots, the league aims to choose long-term partners for its upcoming Season 2, according to a release.

With only six franchise openings, competition is fierce, reflecting investors' growing trust in kabaddi as a structured, scalable sports asset. The interest pool is diverse, spanning corporate groups, high net-worth individuals, family offices, celebrities, and strategic investors. This broad participation indicates a shift in perception towards kabaddi's commercial viability and long-term growth potential.

Adopting a restricted franchise model, GPKL offers six teams across defined regions: Punjab, Haryana, Bhojpuri region, Tamil Nadu, Telugu Region, and Maharashtra. Each franchise offers dual-team ownership and exclusive territorial rights. With demand surpassing supply, the process will enter a competitive evaluation stage.

Positioned as the next phase in professional kabaddi, GPKL builds on domestic league success while implementing a global participation model. The league integrates international players into a Pravasi-led framework, aiming to expand to 75 countries for men and 45 countries for women.

The structured franchise allocation process includes EOI submission, applicant shortlisting, and detailed evaluations. The high response rate means only select applicants will advance. HIPSA President Kanthi D Suresh noted the transition of kabaddi from a traditional sport to a global opportunity, reflecting the growing interest in the league.

Industry trends show early entrants in professional sports leagues benefit from significant value creation as ecosystems mature. GPKL's regional brand-building, commercial scalability, and dual-team ownership aim to support long-term growth. Interested corporates, HNIs, and celebrities are invited to submit EOI applications within the given timeline. (ANI)
