Pranati Nayak: India’s Gymnastics Hope for the 2026 Games
Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak, aimed at triumphing at the 2026 Commonwealth and Asian Games, is bolstered by government support. From national camps to international competitions, the Sports Authority of India and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme back her journey with financial and infrastructural aids.
Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak is gearing up for the 2026 Commonwealth and Asian Games with sustained backing from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). This coordinated effort includes international exposure, foreign training, and national coaching camps for Nayak and the gymnastics team.
Currently, the Tokyo 2020 Olympian is attending the Senior and Junior Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) National Coaching Camp at the High Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar. The camp, running from May 22 to June 20, is part of the preparation for the 13th Senior Asian Championships in Zunyi, China, scheduled from June 25 to 28.
Pranati is a pivotal member of the Indian Senior WAG team. The Government has sanctioned a budget of Rs 23.52 lakh for the Bhubaneswar camp, involving 21 participants, including athletes and support staff. For the upcoming continental championships in China, financial assistance of Rs 36.59 lakh has been approved for the 17-member Indian contingent, inclusive of players, coaches, and staff.
Nayak received a personalized support package under TOPS that sanctioned Rs 5.89 lakh for her participation in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Tashkent, where she clinched a silver medal. Further investments in India's gymnastics, including an international camp in the UK, have been made to fortify the nation's prospects in future cycles. This initiative involved a 16-member team, with Pranati unable to participate due to injury.
Earlier this year, a Senior National Coaching Camp took place at the HPC Bhubaneswar from February 11 to March 15 ahead of the 2026 Games, involving 27 senior gymnasts. These consecutive camps demonstrate the earnest preparation underway to ensure India's competitive edge in upcoming international gymnastics events.
