In an impressive turn of events, teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the youngest player selected for India's national side, shattering a 36-year-old record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, announced Sooryavanshi's inclusion in India's T20I squad for the upcoming series against England and Ireland, as well as the 2026 Asian Games.

Sooryavanshi's meteoric rise has been attributed to his exceptional performances, most notably in consecutive IPL seasons where he delivered stand-out displays for the Rajasthan Royals. Agarkar emphasized the teenager's remarkable skill, confidence, and consistency that effectively forced the selectors' hands despite his nascent career stage. 'His age and inexperience are outweighed by his undeniable talent,' Agarkar commented.

The Bihar-born cricketer dominated the IPL by securing the position of the highest run-scorer with 776 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30 and a record-breaking 72 sixes in the 2026 season. With India's T20I matches against Ireland and England fast approaching, alongside the high stakes of the Asian Games, the spotlight is now firmly on Sooryavanshi as he stands on the cusp of representing his country. The pressure is immense, but confidence in his potential remains high.
