Italy's antitrust agency announced on Thursday an investigation into Google and its parent company Alphabet, citing alleged unfair commercial practices involving users' personal data.
The watchdog expressed concerns over Google's consent requests, suggesting these could be misleading and restrict users' freedom of choice.
In a statement, a Google spokesperson affirmed the company's commitment to cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Italian companies found violating consumer rights can face fines between 5,000 and 10 million euros.
