Polish Billionaire Plans Lawsuit Against Meta over Fake Ads

Polish billionaire Rafal Brzoska and his wife are planning to sue Meta for running fake advertisements on Facebook and Instagram featuring false information about them. WARSAW, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Polish billionaire Rafal Brzoska and his wife are preparing to sue Meta over fake advertisements featuring false information about them on Facebook and Instagram. Brzoska revealed they haven't chosen a jurisdiction yet for the lawsuit, which aims to hold Meta accountable for continuing problematic ads despite user warnings.

A Meta spokesperson has stated that the company removes false advertisements once notified and collaborates with local authorities to tackle scammers. Brzoska, the creator of Polish parcel locker company InPost, had informed Meta of the issue in early July, but no resolution has been achieved so far.

Brzoska said they would seek a court order for Meta to stop profiting from such misleading content and demand substantial compensation to be donated to charity. Recently, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office mandated Meta Platforms Ireland Limited to halt the display of false ads utilizing Brzoska’s and his wife's images on Facebook and Instagram in Poland for three months.
