Senate Investigates US Semiconductors in Russian Weapons
The U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations is set to hold a hearing with four semiconductor companies regarding the use of their chips in Russian weapons used in Ukraine. The hearing aims to investigate the companies' compliance with export controls designed to prevent American technology from reaching the Russian military.
The U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations announced on Thursday that it will hold a hearing with four major semiconductor companies regarding the use of American-made chips in Russian weapons deployed in the Ukrainian war.
Set for Tuesday, the hearing will include testimony from senior executives of Analog Devices, Advanced Micro Devices, Intel, and Texas Instruments. The focus will be on the companies' compliance with export controls aimed at restricting Russia's access to U.S. technology.
Intel declined to comment, while the other companies did not immediately respond. However, the firms have previously stated efforts to curb illegal diversions of their products. Despite stringent export controls imposed in 2022, U.S.-origin chips continue to surface in a variety of Russian military equipment.
