India is set to enhance its space-based surveillance capabilities with a significant plan to launch 52 satellites within the next five years, according to Pawan Kumar Goenka, chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe).
This ambitious effort will see robust private sector collaboration, as the nation looks to fortify its defence sector's surveillance strengths. Historically led by ISRO, the initiative marks a shift towards involving private enterprises in satellite deployment.
The satellites aim to assist the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force in tracking enemy movements and improving real-time military operations. ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology will also transfer to the private sector, allowing for rapid, efficient satellite launches.
