In celebration of the first solar eclipse of 2026 occurring today, February 17, Google has launched a special interactive animation on its Search page. This feature highlights the annular 'Ring of Fire' event, allowing users worldwide to virtually experience this astronomical phenomenon.

The animation can be activated by searching for terms like 'solar eclipse,' 'annular solar eclipse,' or 'Surya Grahan' in the Google Search bar. Upon loading the results, users witness a graphic simulation of the Moon's path across the Sun right on their screens.

The animation specifically emphasizes the 'Ring of Fire,' a distinct effect observed during an annular eclipse when the Moon covers the Sun partially, leaving a bright halo. While today's eclipse began at 3:26 pm IST and ends by 7:57 pm IST, it's not visible in India. Those in the Southern Hemisphere, especially in Antarctica, southern Africa, and South America, are best positioned to view it.

This interactive feature is a continuation of Google's tradition of launching themed 'Easter eggs' for significant celestial events, offering an engaging alternative for those unable to witness the eclipse in person.
