Swiss-German company Terra Quantum announced on Thursday that it has secured a significant contract with the U.S. Air Force to provide software simulating secure communications in battlefield conditions. The announcement comes as Terra Quantum prepares for a Nasdaq listing valuing the firm at $3.25 billion.

Terra Quantum's founder and CEO, Markus Pflitsch, highlighted the significance of this partnership as it transitions quantum-secure communications from research to operational capability. This collaboration occurs amid ongoing tensions between Europe and the U.S. regarding military cooperation and conflicts involving Iran.

The technology will allow for simulations of quantum-secured communications under challenging battlefield circumstances, such as jamming and limited bandwidth, enabling military users to refine their strategies before actual deployment. Additionally, Terra Quantum has launched a quantum key distribution link across a live fibre network connecting Melita's two main data centers in Malta.
