Google Cloud Disruption: Fire at Data Centre Causes Network Woes in India
Google Cloud experienced network disruptions for some users in India due to a fire at a third-party data centre. The incident isolated a presence point in Delhi and decreased network capacity in the area. Efforts to restore service and mitigate traffic impacts are underway.
A fire at a third-party data centre induced network disruptions for some Google Cloud users in India, the company revealed on Tuesday. The event caused an emergency shutdown of networking equipment, isolating a local point of presence in Delhi and reducing the network's capacity throughout the metropolitan area.
Google Cloud's status page indicated that network traffic from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, and nearby regions experienced elevated latency due to the incident. The firefighting efforts continue, with no exact time of occurrence or information about property damage or injuries disclosed yet.
As restoration efforts unfold, Google Cloud, a major player alongside Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, stated there was no immediate workaround. The company is investigating additional traffic mitigation measures to minimize the impact on businesses, apps, websites, and internal systems reliant on its services.
