Engineer Fired for AI Safety Concerns Sues Musk's xAI
A former engineer at Elon Musk's xAI filed a lawsuit alleging wrongful termination for raising AI safety concerns. Devin Kim claims he was fired for pushing safety measures in Grok's development. The lawsuit precedes SpaceX's large IPO, highlighting ongoing safety controversies in Musk's ventures.
A former engineer at Elon Musk's artificial intelligence firm, xAI, has filed a lawsuit alleging he was terminated for highlighting AI safety risks. The engineer, Devin Kim, claims his warnings, particularly regarding the chatbot Grok, led to his ousting ahead of SpaceX's initial public offering this Friday.
Kim, who was among the early recruits at xAI and quickly ascended to a leadership role, accused the company of overlooking essential safety protocols. His predecessor, xAI co-founder Jimmy Ba, allegedly dismissed the need for stringent safety measures, contradicting the expectations set by Musk, as per the lawsuit.
The complaint further accuses xAI and SpaceX of retaliatory firing and violating employment laws. It follows a historical pattern of safety complaints against Musk's companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, which has documented several workplace safety incidents.
