Ather Energy Partners with Amara Raja to Drive India's EV Future
Ather Energy signs MoU with Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies to develop advanced chemistry cells, furthering India's EV indigenisation goals. This partnership follows Amara Raja's significant stake acquisition in Norwegian battery firm InoBat AS, boosting their battery manufacturing capabilities for diverse sectors.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT). The agreement aims to develop and supply Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells, advancing India's electric vehicle technology landscape.
In June, Amara Raja Energy and Mobility announced a Rs 170 crore ($20 million) investment for a 4.5% stake in Norwegian battery company InoBat AS, increasing its total stake to 9.32%. This strategic move is intended to bolster its production of customized batteries for various sectors including automotive and aerospace.
Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, highlighted the initiative as pivotal for promoting indigenous cell technology, optimizing costs, and scaling innovations. Vikramaditya Gourineni, Executive Director at Amara Raja, emphasized their progress in developing world-class manufacturing facilities tailored for Indian conditions.
Ather Energy, which already operates two manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu, is planning to open a third facility in Maharashtra to expand its market reach. Concurrently, Amara Raja is investing Rs 9500 crores to set up a 16GWh gigafactory in Telangana, alongside an advanced R&D center in Hyderabad.
