Softbank-backed e-commerce giant Meesho announced on Thursday that 33 per cent of its users are under the age of 25, largely from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, spearheading the growth of the segment in India.

According to a report based on data from Sensor Tower and Meesho, users from smaller tier 4 cities are the most frequent and repeat shoppers, particularly interested in categories like women's fashion, footwear, and baby care. The report, titled 'Meesho's Smart Shopper Report,' highlighted that Gen Z accounts for one in every three users, making them the fastest-growing demographic in e-commerce. Notably, more than 80 per cent of Indian online shoppers hail from tier 2 and beyond cities.

The Northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim, have seen a 40 per cent rise in e-commerce orders, driven by influencer content. Additionally, the home and kitchen segment has experienced a 50 per cent year-on-year growth, while traditional saree purchases and selfie-focused electronic items are also on the rise.
