The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, in a significant step towards international cooperation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chamber of Accounts, Republic of Uzbekistan, in Tashkent. This landmark agreement between the two supreme audit institutions seeks to enhance collaboration and expertise exchange in the auditing field.

According to a statement from the auditor, the MoU establishes a platform for auditing professionals to share knowledge and experience, bolstering their capacity to conduct audits. Girish Chandra Murmu, India's CAG, expressed his confidence in the partnership, stating, "Our MoU is important as collaborative efforts and knowledge sharing among SAIs promote the dissemination of best practices and innovative solutions, creating a global network of expertise."

Murmu further emphasized that investing in capacity building ensures that supreme audit institutions (SAIs) acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively audit complex government programs, contributing to more resilient and sustainable governance frameworks. The agreement marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between India and Uzbekistan, underscoring their commitment to audit excellence.

Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts, Adiz Muzaffarovich Boboyev, highlighted the importance of the MoU in developing and strengthening professional capacity and audit methodologies. He expressed optimism that the agreement would pave the way for greater accountability and improved governance in Uzbekistan.

During his visit to Tashkent, CAG Murmu also honored the former Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, at his monument, and visited the Lal Bahadur Shastri Center for Indian Culture.
